Renowned Dental Scientist Ajay Prakash Pasupulla, Revolutionizes Cancer Research and Forensic Dentistr

Ajay Prakash Pasupulla, a distinguished Indian oral and maxillofacial pathologist, is earning global recognition for his ground breaking work in the fields of cancer research and forensic dentistry. With a career spanning more than two decades, Ajay Prakash Pasupulla has made significant contributions to understanding oral cancer, molecular diagnostics, and forensic identification.

Born in Betamcherla , Andhra Pradesh, Ajay Prakash Pasupulla ,began his academic journey with a Bachelor of Dental Surgery from KGF Dental College in 1997, followed by a Master of Dental Surgery in Oral Pathology from Meenakshi Ammal Dental College in 2001. Since then, he has become a leading figure in both academic and research communities, contributing innovative solutions to some of medicine’s most challenging questions.

Ajay Prakash Pasupulla’s academic career research began at the prestigious Indian Institute of Science in Bangalore, where he conducted pioneering research on the P53 protein, a key player in Head and Neck Cancer. Under the mentorship of Professor Anjali A. Karande, he delved into the complexities of Biochemistry, laying the foundation for a career that would be characterised by innovation. As his research progressed, Ajay Prakash Pasupulla worked at the Centre for DNA Fingerprinting and Diagnostics (CDFD) on DNA fingerprinting in Human Dental Pulp. His work in this area, particularly his research into Amelogenin and HLA DQ alpha gene expression, has provided new insights into the Molecular Biology of Oral Diseases. Under the mentorship of eminent scientist such as Professor B. Sivapathasundharam, he has embarked on a transformative academic journey and engaged in cutting-edge research that is internationally recognised for its ingenuity and impact.

Ajay Prakash Pasupulla’s work in forensic dentistry—especially his research on lip print patterns (cheiloscopy) and the effects of heat on extracted teeth—has been widely praised for its applicability in disaster victim identification and criminal forensics.

Currently a Professor at Wachemo University in Ethiopia, he has previously served at top Indian institutions, including the Kamineni Institute of Dental Sciences. He has also authored several textbooks, including Fundamentals of Research Methodology and AI and Machine Learning in Medical Science, and is the Editor-in-Chief of Acta Pharma Reports, a peer-reviewed international medical journal.

In recognition of his contributions, Ajay Prakash Pasupulla has received numerous awards, including the prestigious Dr. R.M. Mathur Best Publication Award.

 

Despite his scientific achievements, Ajay Prakash Pasupulla remains deeply committed to education and mentoring the next generation of researchers. He lives with his wife, Dr. Sushma Bushan—a dentist and nutritionist—and their two children, Adhya and Shri Karthik.
