Woman Killed, Four Injured in Pakistan Shelling in North Kashmir’s Uri

A woman lost her life and four other civilians were injured after Pakistan resorted to heavy shelling along the Line of Control (LoC) in Uri sector of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, official sources confirmed on Thursday.
According to reports, the deceased, identified as Nargis Bashir, was among several family members attempting to flee their native village, Razarwani, following intense mortar and artillery fire from across the border. As their vehicle reached Mohura, it was struck by a shell, killing Nargis on the spot and injuring three others onboard. The injured were shifted to Government Medical College (GMC) Baramulla for treatment.
Another civilian sustained injuries in a separate incident when a shell landed in Thajal village of Uri. The cross-border shelling caused widespread panic and damage, with mortars landing deep inside residential areas. Local sources said villages including Mohura, Gingal, and Rampur were heavily affected. At least 10 houses were damaged in Gingal alone.
In a simultaneous escalation, Pakistan also opened intense artillery fire in Kupwara’s Tangdhar sector. Shells fell well beyond the LoC, impacting areas like Manzgam, Kralpora, Chowkibal, and Dollipora—some located over 30 kilometres from the border. Although multiple houses were reported damaged, no casualties were confirmed in Kupwara district.
Authorities are monitoring the situation closely, with fears of further escalation triggering fresh concerns among border residents.
