Taliban Condemnation of Pahalgam Killings Surprises Prof. Saifuddin Soz

Global Outcry Over Civilian Deaths Commendable: Prof Soz

Srinagar, Apr 26, KNT: Former Union Minister Prof. Saifuddin Soz on Saturday issued a statement expressing his astonishment and cautious appreciation over the condemnation of the recent Pahalgam killings by the Taliban-led government in Afghanistan.

Reacting to the global outrage over the killing of innocent civilians in the tourist hotspot of Pahalgam, Prof. Soz said, “The killings of innocent civilians at Pahalgam recently have drawn strong reaction from all over the world. Among others, what surprised me pleasantly was the condemnation of the tragic killings by the Afghanistan Taliban.”

He highlighted that the Taliban government’s Foreign Ministry had strongly denounced the attack, labelling it as an act that threatens regional peace. “The Taliban-led Government in Afghanistan condemned the attack on tourists in Pahalgam (Kashmir) stating that such incidents disrupt the efforts to maintain regional security and stability,” Prof. Soz quoted.

The spokesperson of the Afghan Foreign Ministry, Abdul Gaffar Balkhi, issued a formal statement saying, “The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Emirates of Afghanistan categorically condemns the recent attack on tourists in Pahalgam, the region of Jammu and Kashmir, and express condolences to the bereaved families.”

According to the Afghan official, such acts undermine the progress towards ensuring peace and stability in the region—a message that resonated with Prof. Soz’s broader call for peace.

“I hope and pray that the people of the entire world may turn a leaf for perfect peace, progress and harmony,” Soz said, emphasizing the need for a global commitment to non-violence and understanding.

The reaction from the Taliban-led government has sparked debate and reflection across political and diplomatic circles, given its symbolic significance in the context of South Asian geopolitics and cross-border sensitivities.
