Driver Dies After Car Plunges into Dal Lake Near Centaur Hotel, Woman Passenger Rescued

 

Srinagar, Apr 22, KNT: A road accident occurred near the Centaur Hotel on the Boulevard Road here Tuesday, as a car skidded off the road and plunged into the Dal Lake, resulting in the death of the driver and the rescue of a woman passenger.

According to officials, a Swift car bearing registration number JK01N-7373 veered off the road while navigating a curve and rolled into the lake. The driver, identified as Waheed Ahmad Dar, son of Abdul Rashid Dar, a resident of Chekpora in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district, lost his life in the incident.

Personnel from the River Police and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) swiftly launched a rescue operation, managing to drag out the victims from the submerged vehicle. While Waheed was pulled out and efforts were made to revive him, he was declared dead following a medical examination.

A woman who was also in the car was successfully rescued and shifted to the Nishat Police Station for further assistance.

An official told KNT that preliminary findings suggest the driver may have suffered a heart attack, causing the vehicle to go out of control and crash into the lake.

Police have registered a case and initiated further investigation into the incident. [KNT]
