Some Bureaucrats Harassing People for Years, Habba Kadal Legislator Slams KPDCL for Snapping Power Connections Over Meager Dues

Srinagar, Mar 26, KNT: Expressing strong resentment over power disconnections in multiple areas of Srinagar, Habba Kadal legislator Shameema Firdous castigated Kashmir Power Distribution Corporation Limited (KPDCL) officials for snapping the electricity connections of poor households who owed less than Rs 1000.
She accused the officials of being devoid of sympathy and deriving pleasure from the misery of the underprivileged.
Lashing out at the authorities, Shameema Firdous told the news agency Kashmir News Trust that bureaucrats have made it a habit to harass the common people over the past seven to eight years, and despite repeated appeals, they refuse to change their attitude. “Some officials are more focused on appeasing their masters rather than serving the public. The government coffers are empty, and to fill them, the poor are being looted,” she said.
She further warned KPDCL officials of the consequences if they continued their high-handed approach towards the people. “Sometimes, it feels like those occupying these positions are not even Muslims, as they show no mercy. Shab-e-Qadr is approaching, and yet dozens of families have been plunged into darkness,” she said.
The legislator also accused certain bureaucrats of deliberately attempting to tarnish the image of elected representatives. “We were chosen by the people, they placed their trust in us, but some officers are working to undermine that trust by making life miserable for the poor,” she added.
Residents of several areas, including Habba Kadal, Kral Khud, Nai Sarak, and Ganpatyar, have been protesting against the mass disconnections, urging authorities to reconsider their rigid stance, especially during the holy month of Ramadan. [KNT]
