‘Is It a Clerical Error or Misleading Statement?’ Mehdi Demands Govt’s Response on Reservation Review

Srinagar, Mar 15, KNT: National Conference MP Rahullah Mehdi has strongly reacted to the government’s statement that no specific timeline has been set for the Cabinet Sub-Committee reviewing the reservation policy in Jammu and Kashmir, calling it either a clerical error or a deliberate betrayal of students who placed their trust in the administration.
Responding to the government’s written reply in the Legislative Assembly, Mehdi took to social media, stating, “I hope this line saying ‘no specific timeline has been fixed for submitting the report’ in the reply is some clerical error or some miscommunication between the department and the Chief Minister’s office. @CM_JnK should clarify this.”
Expressing his disappointment, Mehdi warned that if the statement was intentional, it would amount to a “blatant lie” and a betrayal of students who had previously been assured by the Chief Minister that their concerns regarding reservation rules would be addressed within a set timeframe.
“There can’t be a political catastrophe bigger than this when an elected government deceives its people. I didn’t speak on this matter after the students got the assurance from the CM last time because I was expecting the government to do its job in the given time as they had assured. But this response has shocked me. I will not sit quiet on this,” he asserted.
The controversy arose after Social Welfare Minister Sakeena Itoo, in response to a query by Peoples Conference legislator Sajad Gani Lone, stated that the three-member Cabinet Sub-Committee, constituted in December last year to review grievances regarding reservation rules, had not been given a specific deadline to submit its findings.
Mehdi emphasized that he would take up the issue again, urging the government to clarify whether the statement was an error or a deliberate attempt to mislead the public. “I hope the government gives some clarity on this matter and assures us that this reply is a result of some mistake, not a deliberate blatant lie,” he said.
With growing criticism over the uncertainty surrounding the reservation policy review, all eyes are now on the Chief Minister’s Office for an official response to Mehdi’s allegations.
