Devastating Fire Leaves Several Families Homeless in J&K’s Banihal

Ramban, Feb 19, KNT: A devastating fire engulfed seven houses in the remote Syedpora hamlet of Chamalwas in Jammu and Kashmir’s Banihal area during the intervening night of Tuesday and Wednesday.
According to officials, the blaze started in one house before rapidly spreading to nearby structures, leaving several families homeless.
Fire and Emergency Services teams, along with local police and volunteers, worked tirelessly to contain the flames. After hours of intense firefighting, the fire was finally brought under control. Efforts were also made to salvage belongings from the affected homes.
Authorities are assessing the damage, while locals have called for assistance to rehabilitate the affected families. The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained. [KNT]
