Fruit Growers Union Disappointed Over Limited Vande Bharat Route

Srinagar, Jan 12, KNT: The Kashmir Valley Fruit Growers Cum Dealers Union has expressed disappointment with the decision to operate Vande Bharat Express trains on the Katra-Srinagar route instead of the anticipated direct Delhi-Srinagar route.

While welcoming the Katra-Srinagar rail link and the upcoming inauguration of the Z-Morh tunnel, the union stated that the current arrangement fails to meet the logistical needs of the valley’s horticulture industry.

They said that direct rail connectivity to Delhi would have expedited the transport of fresh produce, boosting the horticulture sector and the region’s economy.

The union criticized the inconvenience caused by requiring passengers and goods to switch trains at Katra and highlighted the absence of a dedicated goods train for transporting perishable items.

They urged the Lieutenant Governor, Chief Minister, and Chief Secretary to intervene and advocate for a direct Vande Bharat train from Srinagar to Delhi, emphasizing its potential to benefit both the horticulture sector and the broader economy of Jammu and Kashmir. [KNT]
