Major Seizures and Legal Action Highlight Anantnag Police’s Fight Against Narcotics in 2024

Anantnag, Dec 31, KNT: Senior Superintendent of Police Anantnag, G.V. Sundeep Chakravarthy Tuesday highlighted the significant achievements of Anantnag Police in their fight against drug trafficking and abuse during the year 2024. The efforts included numerous arrests, case registrations, and property seizures.

SSP Chakravarthy revealed that the Anantnag Police registered 123 cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act this year. A total of 185 individuals involved in drug-related activities were arrested, and 126 charge sheets were filed in the courts, reflecting a robust legal response to drug-related crimes.

In their crackdown, the police seized significant quantities of narcotics, including Charas, Cannabis, Poppy Straw, Brown Sugar, and various intoxicants. These efforts disrupted the supply chain and curbed the distribution of harmful substances within the district.

SSP Anantnag said that a major highlight of the year was the financial clampdown on drug networks. Properties worth Rs 26.40 crores, suspected to be linked to narcotics trade, were attached, ensuring a substantial economic blow to those involved in illicit activities. Additionally, Rs 1.94 crores were frozen in 275 accounts connected to drug-related cases, further choking the financial channels of these networks.

SSP Chakravarthy emphasized the department’s commitment to eradicating the drug menace from the district. He reiterated that the police would continue their proactive approach, combining strict enforcement with community engagement initiatives to raise awareness about the dangers of drug abuse. [KNT]
