Ganderbal Cyber Cell Resolves 56 Cases of Blackmail and Social Media Hacking in 9 Months
Ganderbal, Dec 31, KNT: The Cyber Cell of Ganderbal Police has made significant strides in combating cybercrime, recovering lost property, and addressing financial frauds within a short span of nine months. Since its establishment in March 2024, the Cyber Cell has recovered mobile phones worth Rs 16 lakhs and accounted for Rs 17 lakhs in financial fraud cases.
In its operations, Cyber Cell Ganderbal retrieved 87 mobile phones from various locations, which had been lost or stolen. Of these, 74 devices were returned to their rightful owners earlier, while the remaining 13 were handed over during a formal meeting held today. The total value of the recovered mobile phones stands at INR 16 lakhs.
In addition to recovering lost property, the Cyber Cell effectively tackled financial fraud cases amounting to Rs 17 lakhs. Out of this, Rs 3,78,527 has already been credited back to the victims’ accounts, offering much-needed relief to those affected by online scams.
The Cyber Cell also resolved more than 56 cases related to blackmail and social media account hacking, providing a sense of security and relief to victims.
According to the Ganderbal Police, during an event where 13 recovered mobile phones were returned to their owners, the victims expressed gratitude for the diligent efforts of Ganderbal Police.
Speaking at the occasion, SSP Ganderbal emphasized the department’s commitment to curbing cybercrimes and urged the public to report such incidents without hesitation. He assured that complaints would be addressed with utmost sincerity and sensitivity.
