Congress leaders cite multiple reasons including Karra’s appointment as PCC Chief for the debacle in Assembly Elections in J&K
Srinagar, Oct 28, KNT: Senior Congress leaders in Jammu and Kashmir have dissected the party’s recent electoral defeat in the Assembly elections. The meeting culminated in a resolution highlighting critical concerns regarding the party’s status and future in Jammu and Kashmir.
The resolution, signed by 29 leaders, has been forwarded to All Indian Congress Committee President Malik Arjun Kharge. It emphasizes the leaders’ strong belief in Congress ideology and their unwavering commitment to the party, particularly during challenging periods of militancy and recent leadership turmoil.
However, the leaders as per the news agency Kashmir News Trust expressed apprehension about the newly appointed Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) President, Tariq Hameed Karra. Citing his background in the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), they questioned his familiarity with Congress culture. The delayed appointment of the PCC president after the election notification also drew criticism for causing significant disruption within the party.
Furthermore, the resolution alleged that mandates given by Karra, in collaboration with PDP and other parties, have compromised the Congress’s position. The leaders noted a failure to understand the differing political landscapes of Jammu and Kashmir regions, contributing to poor performance in Jammu.
The meeting emphasized the urgent need for the central high command to address these issues to secure the future of Congress in Jammu and Kashmir.
The leaders present in the meeting appealed to the Congress high command to constitute a fact-finding committee to investigate the challenges faced by the party in Jammu and Kashmir.
Despite the setbacks, the leaders reaffirmed their confidence in the leadership of Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi, and Sonia Gandhi. [KNT]
