Self-Interest of Leaders Hampers NC-Congress Alliance in J&K

Srinagar, Aug 26, KNT: The much-anticipated alliance between the National Conference (NC) and Congress ahead of the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections is facing a significant hurdle, courtesy – the self-interest of political leaders.

Sources close to the development have revealed to the news agency  Kashmir News Trust that leaders from both parties, who believe they have a strong base in their constituencies, are opposed to the alliance due to concerns over seat sharing. This reluctance has left the top brass and supporters disappointed.

According to insiders, no probable candidate is willing to cede their seat to the alliance partner, prioritizing their self-interest over the greater good. This shortsighted approach may lead to strong candidates contesting as independents if they are denied party tickets.

Sources added that the top leadership of both Congress and NC is reportedly disheartened by the reluctance of their party members to compromise. “The inability to form a united front may ultimately benefit the BJP, which both NC and INC had hoped to counter through their alliance.

“As the election landscape unfolds, it remains to be seen whether the NC and Congress can put aside their differences and prioritize the interests of the people over individual ambitions,” said a political observer. [KNT]
