Online intimidation case: Sofi Akbar gets bail
Srinagar, July 19, KNT: A Special Court in Srinagar granted bail to Sofi Akbar, the former Secretary of Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC), who along with four other persons had been arrested in 2021 for an alleged role in threatening social activists, political leaders, Government officers, and journalists through online blog ‘Kashmir Fight’.
Besides Sofi, his two children had also been arrested who had already been bailed out by the court.
Special Additional and Sessions Judge Sandeep Gandotra, designated under the NIA Act, ruled that the accused be released on bail upon furnishing bail bond with one surety amounting to Rs one lakh.
“The application filed by Sofi M. Akbar seeking bail is hereby allowed. The accused is directed to be enlarged on bail provided he furnishes a bail bond of one lakh rupees with two sureties of the same amount,” the Court in its order observed.
The Court however has imposed several conditions on Akbar, including mandatory appearance at every court hearing. He is also prohibited from misusing his liberty, contacting witnesses, influencing the investigation, tampering with evidence, and leaving the court’s territorial jurisdiction without prior permission.
