Two men including a migrant worker died and the son of a victim sustained injuries after a trench collapsed in South Kashmir’s Kulgam district.

The incident occurred in Chakpora village of the district.

Local sources told the news agency Kashmir News Trust that one Muhammad Maqbool Dar known for digging trenches in the district was digging a trench at the house of one Mudasir Ahmed.

Local sources added that after reaching a depth of over 12 feet, the adjacent trench collapsed and Dar along with the non-local worker identified as Abdur Rehman got buried in it.

Khurshid Ahmed, the son of Maqbool Dar raised a hue and cry and even jumped into the trench, clearing debris under which the duo had been buried.

Locals and district administration officials rushed to the spot and the trio was dragged out with the help of a JCB. They were taken to District Hospital Kulgam where doctors declared Maqbool Dar and Abdur Rehman brought dead.
