Srinagar-Kargil highway remains closed for 4th day, drivers aghast
Drivers and passengers en-route to Kargil and Leh have expressed resentment over the continuous closure of the Srinagar-Kargil highway.
Srinagar-Kargil highway remained closed for traffic on Wednesday for the fourth consecutive day. Taxi drivers staged a protest in Sonamarg accusing district administration Ganderbal of a lackadaisical approach. They appealed to authorities to restore the highway at the earliest.
Pertinently, the Srinagar-Kargil highway was closed on Sunday after incessant rains and snow at Zojila.
An official said that several snow avalanches have hit Zojila prompting the administration to close the Pass for the traffic.
Scores of vehicles bound for Kargil and Leh are stationed at Sonamarg for the past four days.
A driver told the news agency Kashmir News Trust that stranded passengers are desperate to reach their destinations. “There are vehicles laden with perishable goods as well,” he said.
Worth mentioning here is that the Weather Department has predicted rains on Thursday and Friday across Jammu and Kashmir. [KNT]
