Pattan villagers seek waiver on electricity bills
Several villages of North Kashmir’s Baramulla district inhabited by people with lower income groups Monday sought a waiver of electricity bills. They said they are unable to pay fatty power bills.
The villagers of Tilagam, Chanderseer, Wanigam, Dargam, and Hurindpora of tehsil Pattan said that they are being forced to pay hefty power bills though they don’t receive proper electricity.
The locals told the news agency Kashmir News Trust that the majority of the inhabitants belong to lower-income groups and are unable to pay huge power bills.
“We get monthly power bills ranging from Rs 1500 to Rs 2500. This is a huge amount for us. Not only power bills, we are not able to pay even school fees for our children,” a local Hilal Ahmed said.
The locals requested the Power Development Department to waive electricity bills. They also appealed to the LG Manoj Sinha to forgo their power bills. [KNT]
