HDFC Bank Launches Project ‘HIMALAYA’ in Ladakh

 

HDFC Bank under its CSR arm Parivartan, launched project ‘HIMALAYA’ in the Leh district of Ladakh. Project ‘HIMALAYA’ is an acronym for High-Altitude Income Maximization and Adaptive Livelihoods Advancement for Youth. The Bank has partnered with, Partnering Hope Into Action Foundation (PHIA) and, Appropriate Technology India to implement this initiative.
Project ‘HIMALAYA’ is a Skill Development and Livelihood Enhancement initiative by the Bank and is aimed at supporting communities in the hilly regions, towards generating a climate-resilient livelihood.

Key activities under the project include training locals in agriculture and milk value chain-led skills, formation of farmer producer groups and vegetable value chain producer groups and installation of solar passive greenhouse, vegetable nurseries, and solar street-lights.

Ms. Nusrat Pathan, Head-CSR, HDFC Bank said, “Project HIMALAYA is envisioned to serve the people in the hilly region by creating a climate-resilient livelihood and is aimed towards the socio-economic development of the community. We are happy to partner with PHIA and Appropriate Technology India to implement the initiative in Ladakh and we endeavor to implement this initiative in further high-altitude regions in the entire stretch of the Himalayan belt.”

HDFC Bank was among the top CSR spenders in the country for the financial year ending March 2023.   Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh Brig. B. D. Mishra (Retd.) inaugurated the project. Other dignitaries present during the launch ceremony included DC Leh  Santosh Sukhadeve and Administrative Secretary, Michael M. D’Souza.
