30 Shops, Residential Property Damaged In Massive Fire In North Kashmir’s Kupwara, No Causalities Reported

Around 30 shops and residential property were gutted in a massive fire that broke out in one of them and quickly spread to adjacent structures in North Kashmir’s Kupwara district during pre-dawn hours of Thursday.

No casualty or injury to anyone was reported in the incident.

The devastating fire incident occurred at Dar Gali in Bus Stand Kupwara. One of the fire officials told the news agency Kashmir News Trust that the exact cause of the fire could not be ascertained.

Police have taken cognizance of the incident and registered a case under relevant sections of law.

Property worth crores have been damaged in the inferno, the officials said.

“Several fire tenders were pressed into service to douse the blaze,” they said, adding that the fire was brought under control with the active help from locals and police.

Local sources said that goods of different varieties in the shops were completely damaged in the blaze while a residential property owned by one Bilal Ahmed Dar was also gutted in the fire incident.

Police and civil administration officials rushed to the spot to assess the situation. Deputy Commissioner Kupwara Ayushi Sudan who assessed the quantum of loss assured the victims of all possible help. [KNT]
