The pedestrian bridge connecting Mehjoor Nagar and Jawahar Nagar at Mahjoor Nagar Bund has missed the deadline, much to the displeasure of a large chunk of the population.

“The bridge was scheduled to be completed by August this year, however, looking at the slow pace of the work, it is believed that its completion may take one more year,” the locals told the news agency Kashmir News Trust.

The foundation stone of this bridge was laid by the then Srinagar Mayor Junaid Azim Mattu along with Commissioner SMC  Athar Amir Khan in August 2022. It is being constructed at an approved cost of Rs 4.95 crores with a total road length of 106 meters approximately.

Authorities at that time had claimed that the project would be completed within a period of twelve months., however, locals said that work was stopped for a couple of months on this bridge due to reasons known to the Srinagar Municipal Corporation.

Locals have appealed to the Commissioner SMC to ensure the completion of the project without any further delay. [KNT]
