Five house boats gutted in Dal Lake fire incident
Five houseboats worth crores of rupees were gutted in a massive fire incident in Srinagar’s Dal Lake during pre-dawn hours.
Local sources told the news agency Kashmir News Trust that a fire broke out from a houseboat at around 4:00 AM on Saturday that spread to nearby houseboats. They said that five houseboats and multiple sheds adjacent to these houseboats were completely gutted.
“The property worth over Rs 30 crore has been damaged. Three houseboats belonging to an individual were completely damaged,” said a local.
The houseboats were located along the Ghat Number 9. Fire tenders rushed to the spot after the incident and played a key role in dousing the flames.
The houseboats gutted in the fire incident are Safina, New Safina and Royal Safina belonging to one Gulam Rasool Kana, Lala Rukh owned by Khazir Mohamed Shafi and Khar Palace belonging to Muhammed Sayed Khar.
Police have registered a case and started an investigation to ascertain the cause of the fire.
Meanwhile, the Travel Agents Society of Kashmir (TASK) has appealed to LG Manoj Sinha to help the fire victims.
President Muhammad Akram Siah and Secretary General TASK Waseem Goosani said that the victims have lost everything and they hope that administration especially LG will financially help the fire victims. [KNT]
