Former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah Friday said that the government didn’t do any favor to Mirwaiz Muhammad Umar Farooq by releasing him. He said the government was forced to release Mirwaiz Sahab because of court intervention.

“It’s a welcome step and I welcome it. Better late than never,” Omar Abdullah told reporters while reacting after the release of Mirwaiz Umar Farooq.

“When we were arrested, we knocked at the doors of court to seek our freedom. Similarly, the High Court after going through the case of Mirwaiz intervened and the government was forced to release him. The government didn’t do any favor to him,” he said adding that he wishes Mirwaiz would move out and perform his socio-religious duties.

“Society is beset with many problems. One of the serious problems is the drug abuse. I hope Mirwaiz will play a role in this regard,” he said. [KNT]
