Take Preventive Measures to Prevent Monsoon-Related Losses in Poonch

All Jammu and Kashmir Border Area Development Conference (JK-BADC), the registered body of Border residents has appealed the Jammu and Kashmir government to take preventive measures to avoid loss of life and property due to floods and land sliding in Monsoon season in district Poonch.

The Organization has urged the Chief Secretary and Divisional Commissioner Jammu to constitute Panchayat Level Quick Reaction Teams(QRTs) so that in case of any emergency or flood-like situation, Land sliding situation during monsoon, these QRTs with the coordination of local elected panchayat members are able to save human lives and help in preventing loss of their livestock and property.

The organization stated that every year during monsoon and rainy season people of the border district Poonch suffer huge losses besides the loss of precious lives of humans and cattle so it is imperative that Quick Reaction Teams of professional swimmers, Divers, firefighters, Local Police, Armed forces,  Revenue Officers, local Panchayat members are constituted with all required tools.

Dr Shazad Ahmed Malik, Chairman of JK_BADC and former Vice Chancellor said that the officers of Urban Local bodies, Sub-divisional magistrates, and Tehsildaars should also ensure that encroachment of land belonging to natural water resources including rivers, rivulets, Nallahs and drains are removed so that water flow remains uninterrupted and avoiding flood like situation.

He also requested for strengthening Poonch District Disaster Management Authority and equipping them with all modern machinery including boats. He also called for a timely weather alert announcement system in place in the district.
