May 2023: 13 dead in militancy-related incidents in J&K


Thirteen lives were lost in the month of May in different militancy-related incidents in Jammu and Kashmir.

The data reveals that 4 infiltrators, 5 soldiers, a civilian, and 3 local militants were killed in the month of May in Jammu and Kashmir.

Three locals militants who were killed in two different encounters in North Kashmir’s Baramulla district were Shakir Majid Najar and Hanan Ahmad Seh from Shopian district and Abid Rafiq Wani of Yarhol Babapora Kulgam.

Besides four infiltrators as per Army were killed in different encounters at Pichand Machil, Kandi forest area of Rajouri, and Balakote Sector of Mendhar Poonch.

The data available with news agency Kashmir News Trust reveals that five soldiers Ruchin Singh, Sidhart Chetri, Arvind Kumar, Neelam Singh, and Pramod Negi were killed on 5 May after militants triggered a blast during a CASO in Kandi forest area of Rajouri district of Jammu region.

Militants shot dead a man from Udhampur in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district while a policeman Muhammad Ramzan was injured after militants attacked a check-post in Bijbehara town of South Kashmir’s Anantnag district.

In one of the encounters, after an exchange of fire between militants and joint forces in the Andwan Sagam forest area of Anantnag, militants managed to escape from the area, however, joint forces unearthed a militant hideout in the area after the gunfight.

In the ongoing year, 35 casualties have been reported across the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir. These include 11 soldiers, 9 civilians, 7 local militants, and 8 infiltrators. [KNT]
