Five Special Forces Commandos Killed After Militants Trigger A Blast J&K’s Rajouri

Five special forces commandoes were killed and one was injured after militants triggered a blast during a cordon and search operation in Rajouri forest area of Jammu and Kashmir on Friday.
Initially two soldiers were killed and three other were injured. Later, the three jawans also succumbed to the injuries. The deceased include four para commandos and one commando from Rashtriya Rifles.
Army said that a joint operations against militants was launched after specific search in Kandi Forest area of Rajouri. Army added that contact with hiding militants was established at 7:30 in the morning. During the operation there was an exchange of fire in which militants hiding in a cave sustained bullet injuries. During the operation militants triggered a blast leading to the death of five soldiers including an officer.
Troops are trying to zero in on the group of militants who are believed to be hiding in a cave in the dense forest.
Additional reinforcement have been sent to the spot.
Former Jammu Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah expressed sorrow over the killings of five soldiers. He tweeted that tragic news from Rajouri where 5 army personnel have laid down their lives in the line of duty.
He said militancy is a scourge that has blighted numerous lives over the decades in J&K & deserves unreserved condemnation. “I send my sincere condolences to the families of those we lost today,” Omar concluded. [KNT]
