Police busted an alleged sex racket in Srinagar outskirts on late Monday evening.

After receiving specific inputs, a police party from police station Chanapora raided a house in Bagh-e-Mehtab area and arrested two kingpins and four sex workers.

Police said the duo were running the brothel for a long time. They identified the duo as Irhad Bhat son of Shaban Bhat, a resident of Kadlabal Pampore Pulwama and Shafi Hajam son of Qayoom Hajam from Karimabad Pulwama.

Police arrested 4 sex workers who according to them all hail from Srinagar.

Police said that this prostitution racket was being run from a rented accommodation by the accused.

Two customers present during the police raid were also arrested.

Overall 8 persons including two kingpins, 4 sex workers and 2 customers have been put behind the bar.

Police said that a formal case has been registered at police station Chanapora Srinagar.
Police further said that the whole racket was run from rented house owned by one Altaf Hussain Afaqi son of Asadullah Afaqi of Chanapora.

In this regard an FIR vide number19/2023 under section 3,4,8 of Immortal trafficking act has been registered. “Further as the house owner had not done tenant verification of the tenants, he will also be booked.” police said.

Of late Kashmir has been witnessing a tremendous rise in crime including drug addiction, murder, and theft. This incident is a glaring example of moral degradation in society.

Notably, police in North Kashmir’s Kupwara district today arrested a father for murdering his minor daughter. A couple of days ago, a drug addict choked her mother to death in the Dangarpora area of North Kashmir’s Sopore. Before that, a man in an inebriated condition killed a couple of persons including his mother in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district.   [KNT]
