The Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir Manoj Sinha today inaugurated the first ever multiplex built in Kashmir, INOX Srinagar.

Also present on the occasion were Vijay Dhar, prominent educationist and owner of the cinema and Siddharth Jain, Executive Director, INOX Leisure Ltd and CEO INOX Alok Tandon. The multiplex is located near BB Cantonment area in the Sonwar locality. The multiplex will be jointly operated by India’s leading multiplex chain – INOX Leisure Ltd (INOX) – and the Dhar Family, a prominent family of Jammu & Kashmir.

Being the first multiplex ever in the Kashmir region, the 3-screen cinema is all set to bring the contemporary giant-screen movie-watching experience back to the region. With a combined seating capacity of 524 seats, the multiplex possesses advanced cinema technologies including 3D viewing experience powered by Volfoni Smart Crystal Diamond solution, Dolby ATMOS Surround sound, and the best in class projection equipment.

The multiplex as per news agency Kashmir News Trust will offer a perfect blend of local design elements and the modern multiplex ambiance. While the local art of Khatambandh and paper mache can be seen across the multiplex, the newly appointed auditorium and food counters will offer a modern feel. Designed to comfort and perfection, the destination will also offer a massive food court and other leisure facilities like gaming zones and local fares as an added attraction for families and children. While the popular cinema food like popcorn, nachos, samosas along with a range of sandwiches, burgers, fries, pizzas etc will offer a sumptuous experience, a range of local fares will complete the F&B experience.

LG Manoj Sinha while speaking on the occasion said that under ‘Youth Mission’, multiplexes have already been thrown open for public in South Kashmir’s Shopian and Pulwama. He said people of Kashmir had been deprived of entertainment and he promises that multiplexes will be set up in every district of Kashmir Valley.

Sinha said that under the new film policy, incentives will be given to those associated with the film division.

Renowned educationist and Owner of the multiplex property, Vijay Dhar added, “We have been waiting for this moment to throw open the doors of our cinema for the cinema lovers of Kashmir for so many years. The cinema will serve as a perfect platform to cater to the needs of entertainment seekers in Kashmir. Our teams will ensure that we serve cinematic entertainment in its best form to the audiences. We are highly grateful to the strong and able leadership of Manoj Sinha Ji, whose timely guidance has been our biggest strength in the process of opening of this cinema.”

Speaking on the inauguration, Siddharth Jain, Executive Director, INOX Leisure Ltd said, “The opening of cinema in the Kashmir region is an extraordinary milestone in our journey. Cinemas, for more than a century, have been a part of our cultural fabric, and hold a huge emotional significance for movie fans across the country. Besides being platforms for entertainment, Cinemas have played the role of bridging multi-cultural experiences and emotions, and we are excited that our new cinema in Srinagar will play this role to abundance. The launch of the cinema would also let the region be a part of India’s creative economy and contribute towards strengthening the soft power of the country. As we bring world-class cinema viewing experience to Kashmir, we are also certain that we will take our learnings from Kashmir to the world, through elements like traditions, culture and food. We would like to thank Hon’ble LG Shri Manoj Sinha Ji for showing us the path and enabling us to bring the magic of cinemas back to Kashmir.”

The movie-watching experience at this multiplex would be at par with any other INOX multiplex across the country, with advanced cinema technologies, thoughtfully curated comfortable facilities and a vast F&B menu. The mall will also house a Play Zone which would cater to kids as well as adults, besides having a dedicated Food Court to promote Kashmiri cuisine.

Subhash Chandra from Zee Entertainment and Rajat Sharma from India TV also spoke on the occasion.
