Chief Medical Officer has shut down the Theater Block of Srinagar’s Ramzan Hospital after a couple of deaths due to alleged negligence by doctors.
Chief Medical Officer has issued a formal order which reads that: ‘this is for the information of the general public that the Theater Block of ‘Ramzan Hospital’ Gogjibagh Srinagar is hereby sealed till the outcome of inquiry of alleged death case and further Administrative instructions.”
The order was issued after the Office of the Chief Medical Officer Srinagar received a complaint wherein complainants alleged that due to sheer negligence by the doctors at Ramzan Hospital, a young life was lost.
Pertinently, in Ramzan Hospital, the first case of alleged medical negligence was reported on August 25 when a woman from the Theed Harwan area of Srinagar, Aliya Jan wife of Adil Ahmed was referred to LD Hospital from Ramzan Hospital where the patient had been admitted when her condition deteriorated. The patient was later shifted to SKIMS Soura where she died.
Another lady Shafiya Jan from Naik Bagh Nowgam also died in the hospital sparking massive protest from the family members.
The practice of referrals from private to government hospitals is not uncommon in Kashmir capital Srinagar. “If the patients mostly those in family’s way are stable, they are being treated and money is exacted from their attendants but those patients who develop complications are referred to government hospitals – a tact to save the skin.
