Water shortage sparks protest on Srinagar-Gulmarg road – ‘Kashmir News Trust (KNT)

Traffic came to a grinding halt after protesters blocked Srinagar-Gulmarg road near Kawoosa Narbal area of North Kashmir’s Baramulla district against the failure of PHE Department to supply drinking water to them.

Scores of vehicles got stranded on Saturday. The protesters, including women, alleged that the PHE department doesn’t take their grievances seriously.

The protesters blocked the road, forcing commuters to halt their vehicles for hours.

One of the protesters told news agency Kashmir News Trust that they are facing an acute water shortage for the past two months. He said crores have been allocated for laying a water supply scheme for the area, but only God knows where the money has gone.

A police team led by Choki Officer Narbal rushed to the spot and assured the protesters that the matter will be brought into the notice of authorities. (KNT)
