Govt takes measures to keep J&K hospitals neat and clean

After coming under sharp criticism over the lack of sanitation and cleanliness in Jammu and Kashmir hospitals, the government has finally decided to take measures to sanitize the hospitals in the interest of patients and attendants.

The government of Jammu and Kashmir, Health and Medical Education Department has directed all the heads of hospitals to improve sanitation, make hospitals clean and junk free.

In this regard, the Chief Secretary of Jammu and Kashmir has allotted deliverables to all the Administrative Departments including Health and Medical Education Department which are required to be completed within the prescribed time frame.

A review meeting in this regard was held under the Chairmanship of the Principal Secretary to Government, Health and Medical Education Department Manoj Kumar Dwivedi. After due deliberation upon the deliverables, it has been decided that the criteria for improvement of toilets and upkeep of Hospitals need to be devised and circulated among all the Healthcare Institutions of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir for strict compliance in order to keep the hospitals’ upkeep at every time.

The Heads of the Departments (HoDs) of the Health and Medical Education Department have been directed to implement certain criteria in all healthcare Institutions on an immediate basis, in order to achieve the target of improvement of toilets and upkeep of Hospitals within two months.

Heads of hospitals have also been directed to submit their action taken/compliance report in this regard to the Administrative Department.

Among the long list of directions given to the hospital, HODs include the cleaning of hospital corridors at least twice in a day with wet mop, no cobwebs, bird nest, dust on walls and roofs of corridors, no foul smell in the toilets, no use of brooms in patient care areas, availability of closed drainage system, cleaning of drains once an in a week, no junk material in patient care and critical service areas etc. (KNT)
