Kashmir: Court quashes carpenter’s PSA detention

 

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir High Court Thursday quashed the detention of a carpenter from Central Kashmir’s Budgam district under the contentious Public Safety Act (PSA).

Court sources informed news agency Kashmir News Trust that the detention of Javaid Ahmed Mir son of Bashir Ahmed, a resident of Gotapora Narbal Budgam was quashed by the court on Thursday, nearly seven months after he was arrested on charges of alleged stone-pelting in October 2021 and simultaneously booked under the PSA.

Justice Vinod Chaterji Koul after hearing the arguments of Advocate Bashir Ahmed Tak, who represented the accused quashed his detention under the Public Safety Act and directed authorities to release him from Sub-Jail Kupwara where he is presently lodged. (KNT)
