Andhra mother hacks alcoholic son with axe
Vijaywada: Appala Chittema, a 55-year-old woman from Vijayawada, was taken into police custody after she hacked her son with an axe on Monday evening. He had allegedly attacked her and her grandchildren in an inebriated state.
The deceased, Appala Bala Kotaya (35), was a truck driver. The New Indian Express reported that Kotayya had married Sirisha of Kanchikacherla six years ago, and recently, they had gotten divorced.
According to the police, Chittemma had invited her grandchildren (Kotaya’s children) to celebrate Ram Navami on Sunday.
Kotaya had come to Chittemma’s home on Monday evening around 7 pm, in an inebriated state, and attacked her and the two children with a sickle. Chittemma rescued the children and took them to a neighbour’s house.
Police said, “Fearing that her son would attack them again and to save her grandchildren from him, Chittemma attacked him with an axe, killing him on the spot.”
Based on witness statements, the police have filed a case under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code.
