Snowfall: Highway closed, exams postponed in Kashmir Valley

Srinagar: Authorities on Wednesday closed the Jammu-Srinagar highway after landslides and shooting stones triggered by the heavy overnight snowfall.

An official said that due to shooting stones and landslides at many places, the highway has been closed for the traffic. He said a lot of snow has been accumulated on the highway, especially at Nuvyug tunnel.

“Jammu-Srinagar highway closed for vehicular movement due to landslides and shooting stones at many places on NHW and snow accumulation around the NuvyugTunnel,” Traffic Police said in a communique this morning.

Reports said that hundreds of vehicles including Kashmir bound trucks, carrying essentials and other supplies, are stranded at Banihal on the highway.

Meanwhile, due to heavy snowfall, the University of Kashmir has postponed all UG/PG/Professional examinations of the University scheduled to be held today in view of the sudden heavy overnight snowfall in the valley. (KNT)
