Students stage protest against Tibbia College for demanding hefty fee

Srinagar: Bachelor of Unani Medicine and Surgery (BUMS) students of Kashmir Tibbia College Hospital and Research Centre Wednesday staged a protest against College Administration for demanding hefty fee for last year internship course.

Students emerged at Press Enclave Srinagar and alleged that they are being forced to Pay Rs 1.10 lakh as a fee for last year’s internship course.

“It is a 5 and a half year course. The first 4 and a half year course is academic in nature while last year is for internship. During the last year of internship, the government offers a stipend to students, but here the case is different. Instead of offering a stipend to the students, the College has been demanding fees from us, that too when people are suffering heavily in wake of the Covid-10 situation,” the protesters told news agency Kashmir News Trust.

The students said that they are being barred from attending the classes. “We can’t afford such a hefty amount at this juncture. The situation that has emerged due to Covid-19 has crushed the economy. We appeal to LG Manoj Sinha to intervene in the matter and save our future,” the protesting students said.

Unani Medical Association President Javaid Ahmed Lone said that it is totally injustice towards students to demand hefty fees at one go and that too at this stage when there is Covid-19 induced lockdown.

The college which is popularly known as Kashmir Tibbia College was founded in 1995. This Private BUMS College is affiliated with the University of Kashmir and is approved by the Ministry of Unani and the Government of India. (KNT)
