Degree College named after a slain army para trooper in South Kashmir’s Shopian

Shopian: Government of Jammu and Kashmir today named an educational institution on the name of a local slain army soldier.

Official sources told news agency Kashmir News Trust that a function of renaming the Government Degree College Shopian here in South Kashmir was organized in which top officials from police, civil and army were present.

They said that Government Degree College Shopian will now onwards be called as “Imtiyaz Ahmad Thokar Memorial Model Degree College Shopian”.

Imtiyaz Ahmed Thokar was an Army Para Trooper who was killed in an anti-militancy operation in North Kashmir’s Sopore on 24 February 2015.

Official sources added that the family of slain soldier was also present on the occasion while unveiling the Board with the new name of the College.

Pertinently, Government has constituted a Committee that will recommend and identify the institutions and other landmarks to be re-named after the names of slain soldiers, policemen and other prominent personalities. (KNT)
