Kashmiri students admitted under PMSSS facing multiple problems

Srinagar: Students admitted under Prime Ministers Special Scholarship Scheme (PMSSS) in different colleges across India are facing immense problems.

These students are not availing the full benefits under the Scheme as had been promised to them.

Students told news agency Kashmir News Trust that they are not getting full scholarship that was promised to them at the time of their admissions.

“Under PMSSS we were to get Rs one lakh for books, internet connection, hostel fee and other maintenance charges, but for the current session we are being told that you will only get Rs forty-thousand. They are justifying this claim by saying that you are studying via online mode so you don’t need any maintenance fees,” they said.

They said that most of the students under PMSSS are living in Flats where they have to make a yearly agreement and have to pay rent for whole year whether they stay there or not. “Others who are living in hostels have to pay hostel charges thought they had vacated these hostels after the pandemic, but all the accessories, books, important documents and other materials of these students are stuck in the hostels they were staying in and if they will not pay hostel charges, they will seize these things,” they said.

The aggrieved students said that they wrote to every AICTE official regarding this but no one is paying heed to their grievances.

“Students are facing lots of issues but there is none who can address them and take the students out from the trauma,” students said. (KNT)
