No-Confidence Motion against Aftab Malik: Bilal Ahmed made acting Chairman till elections are held
SRINAGAR: District Development Council Srinagar Thursday urged upon District Development Commissioner Srinagar who is also the Election Commissioner to convene a special meeting of members so that a new chairman could be elected.
The DDC members today resolved to move No Confidence Motion against incumbent DDC Chairperson Aftab Ahmed of the District Srinagar. Aftab Ahmed is affiliated with Jammu Kashmir Apni Party.
One of the members told news agency Kashmir News Trust that all members of District Development Council Srinagar today signed a resolution to bring a No Confidence Motion against the present Chairman.
He said the Chairman shall be deemed to have vacated from office forthwith.
DDC Members also requested Deputy Commissioner (Election Commissioner) Srinagar to convene special meeting of member in terms of provision of Jammu and Kashmir Panchayat Raj Act, 1989 for election of Chairperson so that voting among the DDC member is done and new chairperson of District Development Council Srinagar is elected.
Meanwhile, Bilal Ahmed has been appointed as new acting DDC Chairman till new elections are held.
Pertinently, Apni Party candidate Aftab Ahmad Malik had won the post of Chairperson DDC Srinagar securing 10 votes while Malik’s rival bagged only three votes in February this year.
The new acting chairman Bilal Ahmad, also an Apni Party candidate had managed to secure nine votes for vice-chairperson post in February. (KNT)
