BUDGAM: District administration Budgam here in Central Kashmir has finally electrified a village where people used to spend their nights under candle light since independence of India.
Barely 8 kilometers away from Khag Sub-Division of Central Kashmir’s Budgam district, Khan Mohalla, Lachmanpora village of the district was without electricity in this 21st Century.
Budgam district administration that had received appreciation for electrifying far flung areas under
the ‘Saubhagya Scheme’ or ‘Pradhan Mantri Sahaj Bijli Har Ghar Yojana’ according to locals of Lachmanpora Khan Mohalla had completely ignored this area.
“Khanmohalla in Khag is a Gujjar ‘Basti’ comprising of 35 households. Successive Governments especially during elections promised to us that poles and transformers will be installed but electricity was yet to reach this hamlet even after Jammu and Kashmir was made a Union Territory,” Ali Muhamamd, an elderly man said and expressed joy over the electrification of his village.
News agency Kashmir News Trust in April this year had filed a story and had brought the issue into the notice of concerned officers.
The district administration started work and it took over 2 months for officials to electrify this remote area.
Locals were joyful after seeing the bulbs in their house lit up for the first time since their birth.
“I am 65 and for the first time I have seen bright bulbs in my house. It is for the first time since India’s independence that locals of this area have seen electricity,” Muhammad Razak told KNT.
The locals thanked news agency KNT for raising up their issue and at the same time hailed the role of the LG administration. (KNT)
