Authorities impose week-end restrictions in Sonmarg after influx of tourists

SONMARG: The Ganderbal administration has imposed weekend restrictions in world famous hill station of Sonmarg, amid reports of massive influx of tourists and locals on the destination reportedly violating Covid-19 guidelines.

Additional District Magistrate Ganderbal Farooq Ahmed Baba told news agency Kashmir News Trust that only those tourists and locals will be allowed to proceed towards Sonmarg on weekends who will possess proof of booking of hotels in the hill station.

He said weekend restriction will remain in force till 25 July and these may be extended if situation demands.

“We were informed that there is huge influx of tourists and locals who assemble in Sonmarg on weekends, violating Covid-19 related guidelines. There are apprehensions that Covid-19 virus may spread if people ignore Covid-19 related SOPs,” he said. (KNT)
