Covid-19 Relief: Ration meant for free distribution left to rot at Budgam Sale-Centre

Though the officials of the Department took out the rotten ration from the said Sale-Centre but interestingly the same ration bags were deposited at a Fair Price Shop.

 

BUDGAM: In Charge Sale-Centre at Haji Bagh area of Central Kashmir’s Budgam district that had received free ration as Covid-19 relief for the purpose of distribution among people left that ration to rot at the Centre instead of distributing the same.

Locals demanded strict action against the employees of Department of Food Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs responsible for the mess.

Sources told news agency Kashmir News Trust that hundreds of bags of rice which was meant for free distribution among people in this ongoing Covid-19 pandemic were rotting at the Haji Bagh Sale-Centre from past 7 to 8 months.

Sources added that some vested interest elements from the Department slept over the matter for the reasons better known to them.

Though the officials of the Department took out the rotten ration from the said Sale-Centre but interestingly the same ration bags were deposited at a Fair Price Shop.

Sources said that shortly after the episode, locals informed District Administration that acted swiftly and seized these bags of ration.

An official told KNT that Deputy Commissioner Budgam has ordered a time bound inquiry into the mess to fix the responsibility. (KNT)
