Collapse of roof leaves 40 female mourners injured in J&K Poonch

Over Forty ladies attending a funeral, were injured when the roof of a house in Jammu Kashmir’s Poonch district collapsed on Thursday.

The incident occurred at Khanethar village of Poonch district.

The police said that a large number of people had arrived at the house of one Zakir Hussain Shah to mourn the death of a family member.

Scores of women mourners were present on the roof of the house to have a glimpse of the funeral procession. The roof collapsed suddenly leaving over forty women injured.

Police followed by a Disaster Response Force reached the spot, pulling out the injured from the debris. They were shifted to the district hospital Poonch for treatment.

Dr Zulafkar Ahmed, Superintendent, District Hospital Poonch told news agency Kashmir News Trust that over 40 women have been brought to the hospital so far. He said almost all the injured are stable and some have been discharged after first aid. [KNT]
