Kashmir: Among 12 civilians killed in the ongoing year, 9 belong to the majority community

 

Srinagar, May 13, KNT: This year till the second week of May, 12 civilians among which 9 belonged to the majority community have been killed in Kashmir Valley.

Among these 12 civilians 9, were locals, 2 non-locals, and a Kashmiri Pandit.

The data available with news agency Kashmir News Trust reveals that militants gunned down 3 Sarpanchs, a Panch, brother of an SPO. Two civilians including a lady were killed in a grenade attack while two persons died during encounters.

Besides, militants shot at and injured 10 non-locals among which 3 were Muslims.

A civilian Shakeel Ahmed Khan son of Abdul Rahim Khan resident of Amshipora was killed during Amshipora Shopian encounter in the last week of February. Two militants were also killed in that encounter.

In March a Panch Muhammad Yoqoob Dar was killed by militants in Kolipora Sundroo village of Kulgam while an elderly civilian Muhammad Aslam Makhdoomi, resident of Kailashpora Srinagar, and 20-year-old girl Rafia Nazir of Hazratbal were killed while 25 sustained injuries in a grenade attack at Amirakadal Srinagar.

Militants shot dead a Sarpanch Sameer Ahmed Bhat of Khonmou ward C in Khonou Pampore. Militants shot dead a Sarpanch in Adora village of Kulgam.

A civilian Tajamul Mohiuddin Rather was shot dead by militants in Gotapora village of Budgam.

SPO Ishfaq Ahmed Dar and his brother Umar Jan were killed after militants fired upon them in their house at Chadbugh Budgam.

In April, militants shot dead a local at Kakran village of Kulgam identified as Satish Kumar Singh, a driver by profession.

An independent Sarpanch Manzoor Ahmed Bangroo was shot dead by militants in Goshbugh Pattan area of North Kashmir’s Baramulla district.

In May, a civilian Shahid Gani Dar of Pandoshan Shopian was killed in Pandoshan encounter while militants escaped from the spot. Police said that militants in order to escape from the spot targeted civilians.

In a recent incident, that spark wide-spread protest from Pandits, militants shot dead a Revenue employee, a Kashmiri Pandit Rahul Bhat of Sangrampora Beerwah in Chadoora Budgam.

A non-local carpenter Akram Salam of Bijnore UP was injured after militants fired at him in Arihal Pulwama.

A non-local vendor Bisujeet Kumar of Bihar was injured in a militant attack in Gangoo Pulwama.

Two non-locals Surinder Singh son of Bishan Singh and Dheeraj Dut son of Susheel Dut, both residents of Pathankot Punjab sustained injuries after militants fired upon them in Nowpora Litar village of South Kashmir’s Pulwama district.

Militants shot at and injured a Kashmiri Pandit Sonu Kumar in Chotugam Shopian. Two non-locals from Bihar Pileshwar Kumar and Jakho Kumar was injured after militants fired upon them in Lajoora village of Pulwama.

A non-local Pathankot driver Sonu Kumar was injured in a militant attack in Yadar Litar area of Pulwama.

Two workers from West Bengal Najmul Islam and Ankil Islam were injured in Nowgam Srinagar militant attack.

Militants also made an unsuccessful bid on the life of Aarihal Pulwama Sarpanch Ghulam Nabi Kumar. However, Sarpanch escaped unhurt after the fire missed the target. (KNT)
