Water Scarcity: Protesters place pitchers on roads as a mark of protest

SHOPIAN: In order to attract the attention of Public Health Engineering (PHE) Department, the locals at village Wathoo of South Kashmir’s Shopian districts placed empty decanters and pitchers on the road.

The locals alleged that PHE official are doing nothing to mitigate their sufferings. They said there is acute shortage of drinking water in the village but the PHE Department instead of addressing the problem is making false promises.

“Our women folk have to cover a long distance to fetch the water. We even collect water from local streams and nallahs and consume it after boiling,” they said adding the taps are running dry from past couple of weeks.

The protesting villagers appealed concerned Deputy Commissioner to look into the matter and give them some respite in this scorching heat. (KNT)
