Srinagar: Two District Hospitals in Central Kashmir’s Budgam and Ganderbal are facing acute shortage of doctors and para-medical staff, reveals a reply sought under Right to Information Act.
The District Budgam as per news agency Kashmir News Trust has 501 villages out of which 480 are inhabited and the population of all these 480 villages are dependent on District Hospital Budgam.
The district has neither any ‘evening clinic’ nor any emergency hospital.
The District Hospital Budgam administration has admitted that presently there is deficiency of seven (7) doctors and thirty-six (36) para-medical staff.
In recent past over 12 doctors including consultant physicians, consultant surgeons, consultant genealogists and others have been transferred from the said hospital but in most cases, no replacements have been made.
From last three years only two emergency rooms viz; High-end and Pediatric Ward and Dialysis Unit have been established in the hospital. Though hospital administration claims that existing trained staff has been utilized for the same but attendants have a different story to share.
Another district hospital in Central Kashmir’s Ganderbal has been presenting the same grim story. District Hospital Ganderbal has a deficiency of 112 employees. There is a deficiency of 4 consultant physicians, 4 consultant surgeons, 4 consultant genealogists, 2 consultant pediatricians, 4 consultant orthopedicians, 2 consultant ENT, 2 consultant ophthalmologists, 2 consultant sonologists and so on.
The District Hospital Ganderbal has deficiency of 20 Medical Officers and 10 sanitation employees as well.
The unhygienic atmosphere of the hospital looks more of a hazard for normal health than anything else.
