J&K Govt to Provide 10 Kg Free Ration for AAY Beneficiaries, Increases Agriculture Funding

Srinagar, Mar 7, KNT: Delivering on a key poll promise, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has announced that all Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) beneficiaries will receive 10 kg of free ration per person every month starting April 1.
Presenting the budget in the Legislative Assembly, the Chief Minister stated that the initiative aims to provide enhanced nutritional support to the most vulnerable sections of society. To further improve food security and accessibility, the government will also assess and upgrade fair price shops across the Union Territory.
In a boost to the agricultural sector, the government has allocated ₹2,221.58 crore under capital expenditure for agriculture and allied sectors for 2025-26—an increase of ₹332.72 crore over the revised allocation of 2024-25. The Chief Minister emphasized that the enhanced funding will support key initiatives aimed at strengthening the sector and increasing farmers’ incomes.
The twin measures underscore the government’s commitment to ensuring food security and agricultural growth in Jammu and Kashmir.
