Cracks on Hajin Road Along Jhelum Trigger Panic, Authorities Assess Situation

Bandipora, Feb 25, KNT: Widespread concern has gripped the residents of Hajin town in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district after large cracks appeared on a road running parallel to the Jhelum River on Tuesday.
According to locals, minor cracks had been developing over the past few days, but the situation escalated when deep fissures emerged suddenly, raising fears of a potential disaster. Given the road’s proximity to the river, residents worry that if the damage worsens, it could pose a serious risk to commuters and nearby settlements.
Urging immediate intervention, locals have called on authorities to take swift preventive measures to avoid further deterioration.
Meanwhile, an official confirmed that a team has been dispatched to assess the situation. “We are closely monitoring the extent of the damage. Public movement near the affected area will be restricted as a precautionary measure,” he said, adding that necessary remedial steps will be taken accordingly. [KNT]
