Abandoned Panchayat Ghar in Budgam’s Churmujra Village Leaves Locals in Lurch

Budgam, Aug 20, KNT:- In a shocking example of government apathy, the construction of a Panchayat Ghar in Churmujra village of Central Kashmir’s Budgam district, has been abandoned midway, leaving locals to suffer for over 12 years. Despite a significant amount of money being spent on the project, only four walls of the building have been erected since its inception in 2012.

The incomplete Panchayat Ghar has resulted in a lack of a proper platform for locals to address and redress their grievances, exacerbating their suffering. The absence of a functional Panchayat Ghar has hindered the resolution of local issues, further marginalizing the community.

Locals have appealed to Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and Director Rural Development to intervene in the matter, demanding accountability and swift action to complete the project. They have urged the authorities to fix responsibility for the abandonment of the project and ensure that those responsible are held accountable.

Locals told the news agency Kashmir News Trust that the incident highlights the need for greater oversight and accountability in government projects, ensuring that funds allocated for development are utilized effectively and efficiently.

They said the local villagers await a resolution to their plight, hoping that their voices will be heard and their grievances addressed. [KNT]
