Kashmir United in Grief and Defiance After Pahalgam Attack: Tanvir Sadiq

Srinagar, Apr 30, KNT: National Conference chief spokesman and MLA Zadibal, Tanvir Sadiq, has said the April 22 Pahalgam attack was not just an act of terror but a direct assault on Kashmir’s dignity and collective soul. Tanvir Sadiq described how the Valley responded with spontaneous shutdowns, mourning, and unity, rejecting violence without any political prompting.

Highlighting the courage of 30-year-old ponywallah Syed Adil Hussain Shah, who died defending tourists, Sadiq said his sacrifice symbolized the true spirit of Kashmiriyat. He also acknowledged the many unnamed Kashmiris who helped the injured, calling them unsung heroes.

Sadiq condemned attacks on Kashmiri students and traders in other parts of India following the incident, urging national unity and asking why Kashmiris are vilified even when they stand against militancy. He called collective punishment of militant families unjust, urging security forces to ensure accountability without collateral damage.

Criticising the lack of an elected government, Sadiq argued that trust and peace can only be built through democratic partnership. He also welcomed the historic special session of the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly, which unanimously condemned the attack, saying it was a clear message that Kashmir stands against violence.

“Not in our name,” he said, echoing the Assembly’s resolution, and adding that the world must now see the humane, resilient face of Kashmir. [KNT]
