Two Notorious Drug Peddlers Booked Under PIT-NDPS Act in Srinagar

Srinagar, Apr 7, KNT: Continuing its intensified crackdown on drug menace, Srinagar Police has booked two well-known drug peddlers under the stringent Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PIT-NDPS) Act.

The accused, identified as Adil Hamid, son of Ab Hamid Sheikh of Allochi Bagh, and Zahoor Ahmad Khan, son of Gh Mohammad Khan of Zakura, have been detained following formal orders issued by the Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir. The detention was based on detailed dossiers compiled by the police outlining their repeated involvement in drug-related crimes.

Both individuals have been shifted to jails outside the Valley — with Adil lodged at Kot Bhalwal Jail in Jammu and Zahoor at District Jail Bhaderwah.

According to police, the duo has been actively supplying narcotics to youth in various parts of Srinagar, posing a serious threat to public health and safety. Despite facing multiple cases under the NDPS Act across several police stations, the accused continued to run their illegal drug network even after being released on bail multiple times.

Authorities have now initiated proceedings to attach their properties under the PIT-NDPS Act, aiming to dismantle the financial infrastructure behind their illicit operations.

Srinagar Police has been aggressively pursuing its anti-drug campaign in recent months. Since the beginning of 2025, as many as 25 notorious drug peddlers have been booked under the PIT-NDPS Act in the district, as part of sustained efforts to curb the spread of narcotics in the Valley.
