Intermittent Rains to Continue Till April 11: MeT Dept

Srinagar, Apr 8, KNT: The Meteorological Department on Tuesday predicted a spell of unsettled weather across Jammu and Kashmir, with generally cloudy skies, intermittent light rain, and snowfall over higher reaches expected to continue till April 11. The department also warned of thunder and gusty winds in some areas during this period.

A MeT official said that while the precipitation is expected to be light, isolated weather disturbances could temporarily affect visibility and travel conditions, especially in hilly and mountainous regions. “From April 12 to 17, however, the weather is likely to remain dry and stable across the Union Territory,” the official added.

The forecast has prompted authorities to issue advisories to tourists and travelers, especially those planning visits to popular destinations such as Gulmarg, Sonamarg, and Pahalgam. Local residents living in higher altitudes have also been asked to stay alert, particularly during late evening and night hours when conditions may deteriorate.

Agricultural experts have urged farmers to take preventive measures to protect crops from unseasonal rainfall and wind, especially in the Kashmir Valley where horticultural activities are currently at a critical stage.

The intermittent wet spell, though not severe, comes at a time when Jammu and Kashmir is transitioning from winter to spring, and authorities say it’s part of a typical seasonal shift. Nonetheless, people are advised to stay updated with daily weather bulletins to avoid inconvenience. [KNT]
