Cross-Border Tensions Flare in Naushera, Kupwara, Akhnoor, and Baramulla Sectors Small-Arms Fire Reported from Multiple Pakistan Posts

Srinagar, Apr 30, KNT: The Indian Army on Wednesday accused Pakistan Army troops of resorting to unprovoked small-arms fire during the intervening night of April 29 and 30 across several stretches of the Line of Control (LoC) and the International Border in Jammu and Kashmir.

Army officials said that the firing was first reported opposite the Naushera, Sunderbani, and Akhnoor sectors in the Jammu region, with Pakistani posts targeting forward Indian positions without any provocation.

“Pakistan Army initiated unprovoked small-arms fire across the LoC during the night of 29-30 April in the sectors of Naushera, Sunderbani, and Akhnoor,” a defence spokesperson said.

The pattern of firing reportedly extended northwards, with additional incidents recorded along the LoC in Baramulla and Kupwara districts in Kashmir Valley. The Indian Army also reported similar activity across the International Border in the Pargwal Sector of Jammu.

Describing the situation as a “violation of ceasefire understanding,” the Army said Indian troops exercised restraint but responded in a firm and calibrated manner to prevent any escalation.

“Our troops responded appropriately to the unprovoked firing,” the spokesperson added, while confirming that no casualties or significant damage were reported on the Indian side at the time of this report. [KNT]
